Congratulations to Energy Singularity for Setting a New Record in High-Temperature Superconducting Magnets, with hundreds of kilometers of High-Temperature Superconducting Tapes Supplied by Shanghai Superconductor

Energy Singularity has achieved a monumental breakthrough in high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet development. The company’s state-of-the-art large-bore high-field Jingtian magnet has successfully completed its first experiment, generating an unprecedented 21.7 tesla magnetic field. It has surpassed the previous record of 20.1 tesla set by the SPARC TFMC magnet developed by MIT and CFS in 2021. This test set a new record for large-bore D-shaped HTS magnets, marking a significant leap forward in fusion energy commercialization.
Since 2022, Shanghai Superconductor has established a close cooperative relationship with Energy Singularity. As a core material supplier for Energy Singularity, SST has supplied hundreds of kilometers of high-performance HTS tapes for the Jingtian magnet, providing solid material support for the smooth progress of the project. The Jingtian magnet is the second key milestone after the world's first full HTS tokamak, Honghuang 70. It is worth mentioning that Shanghai Superconductor also supplied all the high-performance HTS tapes required for Honghuang 70.
The successful operation of the Jingtian magnet has positioned Energy Singularity at the forefront of advanced magnet technology and the commercialization of fusion energy. This achievement provides a foundation for the research and validation of key technologies and manufacturing processes for the TF magnets in Energy Singularity's next-generation tokamak device, Honghuang 170. It also once again demonstrates Shanghai Superconductor's capability to stably supply high-performance HTS tapes in large quantities for applications such as fusion magnets, as well as the superior performance of its products. Moving forward, Shanghai Superconductor will continue to adhere to technological innovation, further enhance its supply capacity and product performance, and work closely with customers to drive breakthroughs and development in fusion energy as well as other superconducting application technologies.
