Congratulations to Startorus Fusion for successfully developing an 18T D-shaped high-temperature superconducting magnet, with Shanghai Superconductor supplying all high-temperature superconducting tapes.

2024-02-05

In collaboration with Tsinghua University, Startorus Fusion has successfully developed a prototype of a D-shaped high-temperature superconducting magnet, achieving a maximum field strength of 18T inside the magnet. This is currently the highest reported field strength for D-shaped magnets in the country. The successful operation of this magnet lays a solid foundation for the design of the company’s next-generation device. Looking ahead, the company will continue to optimize magnet design and operation plans, with the ambitious goal of achieving a 25T field strength.

Shanghai Superconductor has worked closely with Startorus Fusion to provide the high-performance high-temperature superconducting tapes required for the magnet’s winding. In the future, Shanghai Superconductor will continue to supply high-performance high-temperature superconducting tapes in bulk to support Startorus Fusion’s R&D and innovation in high-temperature superconducting fusion magnets.
